re:new Four Acre
re:new Four Acre is a Neighbourhood Management project run by St Helens Council and social housing provider Helena Partnerships. It was set up in 2008 to make the Four Acre area of St Helens a better place for people to live, work and be part of.
re:new Four Acre brings together local residents and local service providers (health, education, police, housing) on a Partnership Board. The board meets every few months and takes joint decisions on how to improve the neighbourhood.
Day to day responsibility for the re:new Four Acre area lies with the neighbourhood management team made up of Helena Partnerships staff.
By working together, the partnership project aims to tackle the issues which matter most to local people.
Four Acre lies to the South of St Helens and has 1,204 homes (many owned and managed by Helena Partnerships) and a population of 2,824 people. The area includes a busy shopping area around Four Acre Lane and is close to the Lea Green Industrial Estate. It also has a newly built Sure Start Children’s Centre, a newly refurbished doctors’ surgery, a community centre on Chester Lane and the Leaf Centre which provides training, crèche and youth facilities.
re:new Four Acre will work to tackle a range of issues including: crime and community safety, health, the local environment, education, employment and the local economy.
A launch event was held in December giving the neighbourhood management team a chance to meet local residents, listen to their concerns, and explain how re:new Four Acre will work.
Future initiatives will include skip days where people have the chance to get rid of household and garden waste, bulb planting, graffiti removal, and projects with young people to divert them from crime and anti-social behaviour.
re:new Four Acre is currently looking for residents to get involved and will shortly begin recruiting for the Partnership Board.
