re:new Parr

re:new Parr was set up as a pilot project in 2006 by St Helens Council and local housing landlord Helena Partnerships.

Its aim is to make the Parr area of St Helens a better place to live, work and be part of – by improving local services, and tackling the quality of life issues which matter most to local people.

re:new Parr is a Neighbourhood Management project which brings together local residents and local service providers (health, education, police, housing) on a Partnership Board. The board meets every few months and takes joint decisions on how to improve the neighbourhood. Day to day responsibility for the re:new Parr area lies with the neighbourhood management team.

It’s been such a success that the Parr model has now been rolled out to three other parts of the borough.

The re:new Parr area covers about 5,300 homes and 12,000 people. It’s a diverse place with lots of parks and open spaces, two of which – the Duckeries and Gaskell Park – have coveted Green Flag status.

But by many measures the area faces a lot of challenges, with pockets where there are high levels of crime, poor health and low levels of educational achievement.

It’s for this reason that re:new Parr has focused its attention on issues such as crime and community safety, housing, education, the environment, health and worklessness.

A lot has been achieved in the first two years - including environmental projects, graffiti removal, junior wardens schemes involving local schools and increased warden patrols at hotspots.

But we can do more – and that’s where you come in. re:new parr needs local residents to get involved and have their say. Contact us for more information or if you would like to attend the re:new Parr Partnership Board meeting.

Our vision?

To improve the quality of life for the residents of Parr by creating a safer, stronger community, where people feel proud to live and work and where service providers continually improve their delivery by responding to neighbourhood needs.
